Almost eight years ago, I was a few days into a new job when this photo was taken. My old job had sucked the life out of me and I was ready to pursue new opportunities, but I was 20 and wide eyed and terrified. I was dating a guy who loved me but “didn’t want to commit”, had recently transferred colleges, had moved back in with my parents and had overall convinced myself that I was on the verge of a twenty-something crisis.
And then one day, I’m standing at the front desk and I heard the most calming voice. I looked up, saw her, and shouted, “OHMYGODYOU’REELIZABETHGILBERT!” She gave me this big grin and said, “I am!” I told her I was reading her book (Eat Pray Love) and that it had already changed my life, and because I was such a frazzled 20 year old who was rambling, she stopped me and asked if she could sign it. She wrote, “To Stephanie, who is lovely and full of grace.” And then she asked me if we could take a picture together.
Here we are, almost eight years later – and that job brought me to finding my major, dumping the deadbeat, moving to the little beach town where I worked and out of my parents house (and eventually, to Wyoming), and most importantly – it’s where I met my soon-to-be husband (11 days!) I was so terrified when I started that job, but looking back, this is where it all started. This was the year that I chose to find joy in all of the adventures that were waiting for me.
And it all started with Liz Gilbert.💫 @elizabeth_gilbert_writer #elizabethgilbert #lizgilbert #eatpraylove #committed #pilgrims #BIGMAGIC #magic #wcw
