Snow Days

Like most people across the country, we have gotten pounded with snow the past couple of days causing both Stephen and I to be off from work due to hazardous road conditions and below freezing temps. (I know this weather can be a pain in the butt, but it really does make me miss Wyoming….)

The first day (er, Tuesday) we braved the elements and went out for a beer run. Keep in mind that this was at the height of the storm when most people were staying inside and watching the news. Not us.

This isn’t the most flattering picture (I’m sure you can tell I’m really forcing that smile) but this is the best I can do in the midst of 14 inches of accumulating snow. Beer run = success.
We decided to spend the rest of the day snuggled up inside. I threw together a salad for dinner and we rented Captain Phillips on demand. Holy stressfest, that movie had me on the edge of my seat from start to finish! Highly recommended, but maybe not if you’ve had a stressful day at work (Although, your day probably wasn’t as bad as Capt. Phillips’…) I’m going to try and see most of the Oscars movies — have you guys seen any? What were your favorites? Did any leave you disappointed?
By the second day (aka, Wednesday) we were starting to get cabin fever. The snow was still a little too slick to run on, so we decided to take our snowshoes to the state park and get a little fresh air! We had to walk on the paved path (which is typically our running route) to get to the trails, but it was definitely worth it to be out there in total solitude while hiking through the snow. Here’s a picture of mancake, right next to the place where he can usually be found fishing for trout in warmer climates:
The first time I went snowshoeing was Valentine’s Day, 2012. Here’s a picture of me from that day… Just as a point of reference, we were about to cross a lake. (Yes, a lake. I was terrified I was going to fall through.) It was a great, romantic day out in Grand Teton National Park.
Our snowshoeing adventure yesterday was just as amazing. The sun was shining and I was with my best dude. Not too shabby.
To top off the end of our snow day mini-vacation, Stephen cooked dinner (mahi with a ginger/soy sauce glaze and broccoli) and wouldn’t let me in the kitchen to help. Um, deal!
I sat on the couch and enjoyed a glass of ‘Once Upon a Vine’ Big Bad Red Blend. I had never had this wine before, but I really enjoyed it! Perfect for a cold winter’s night. I also snuggled up under our Jaeger wool blanket – so no complaints from this girl.
While temps are still below freezing, the snow has found it’s niche and we’re back to work. With the weekend just a day away, the adventures are sure to continue!
until next time…
